Istanbul opens World's largest airport under one roof
- The world’s largest airport terminal “under one roof” with a capacity to serve 90 million passengers has been officially opened in Istanbul, which marks the Republic Day of Turkey.
- Overall the first phase has cost 7.5 billion Euro.
- The airport has been envisioned to have a total capacity of up to 200 million passengers, once all four phases are completed in the next 10 years.
India and Japan sign loan agreement worth ₹.1817 Crore
- A Loan Agreement worth of Rs. 1817 crore approximately was signed between India and Japan for the construction of Turga Pumped Storage (I).
- The objective of the Project is to strengthen the capability to respond to fluctuation in supply and demand of power and to improve stability of the power supply.
India rank 65 in Global Passport Index
- Among a total of 199 countries, Singapore has acquired the first position.
- The Global Passport Index ranked the Indian passport in the 65th position in it’s latest ranking.
- The ranking which is based on the passports’ visa-free score, improved nine-notches since 2017.
- The Passport Index is the world’s most popular online interactive tool, which collects, displays and ranks the passports of the world.
India-Russia strategic economic dialogue
- The first-ever India Russia Strategic Economic Dialogue was held at St. Petersburg in Russia.
- Indian side was led by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar and Russian delegation headed by Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin.
Bainimarama sworn in as Fiji PM

Incumbent Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was sworn in for a second term after his ruling Fiji First party won this year’s general elections.

Bainimarama was sworn in by President Jioji Konrote in the presence of representatives and high officials of the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the government.
Sri Lanka to lift parliament suspension
- Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena announced that he would lift the suspension of parliament in 10 days as international pressure mounted on him to open the legislature and resolve a leadership struggle.
- Sirisena had promised the parliamentary speaker that he would recall the assembly.
India slips two places to 53rd position in Global Talent Ranking
- India has slipped two places to rank 53rd Position in Global Annual talent ranking released by renowned IMD Business School, Switzerland on 20 November 2018.
- Switzerland retained the top Position for the fifth consecutive year.Denmark attained 2nd rank,while Norway attained 3rd Rank.
India pipped USA to become 2nd largest smartphone market
- According to a report by research firm Canalys, India overtook US as the 2nd largest smartphone market after China.
- China saw a shipment of 100.6 million smartphones in the 3rd quarter followed by India which saw 40.4 million units during the same period.
- US was at 40 million units in the July-September 2018 period.
Palau becomes first country to ban sunscreen to save coral reefs
- The Western Pacific nation of Palau has become the first country to ban many kinds of sunscreen, in a move to protect its coral reefs from chemicals that scientists say cause significant damage.
China taps India as digital economy partner

China has involved India as a digital partner, as part of Beijing’s drive to cyber-connect with Eurasia, its new frontier for trade and investments.

At a conference on defining common international standards for two-dimensional (2D) barcodes, Chinese officials announced that India is already on board in this global exercise.
India to top US as 2nd largest Carbon spewer from power: IEA report
- The International Energy Agency in its latest report ‘World Energy Outlook’ stated that India will overtake the U.S. to become the world’s second-biggest emitter of carbon dioxide from the power sector before 2030.
