National Conference on Down syndrome held in Delhi

  • A ‘National Conference on Down Syndrome’ was organised by the National Trust under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in New Delhi on March 26, 2018.

  • The main objective of the conference was to provide excellent opportunities to the parents to obtain information about latest development in education and skilling and inclusive living of persons with Down syndrome.

Seventh India-Egypt Joint Commission meeting held in New Delhi

  • The 7th India-Egypt Joint Commission Meeting led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was held in New Delhi.

  • Both the sides reviewed the progress in the areas of political, trade & investment, S&T, cybersecurity, capacity building, security, space, and culture.

1st G20 Ministerial meeting held in Argentina

  • The first G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors began in Buenos Aires, Argentina with the presence of 57 delegations from countries and institutions.

Informal WTO Ministerial meeting held in New Delhi

  • Representatives from 50 countries gathered in New Delhi for a two-day informal World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meeting.

  • It will provide an opportunity to engage in free and frank discussions with the hope that it will lead to political guidance on some major issues.

17th World Conference on Tobacco held in South Africa

  • The 17th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) was held in Cape Town, South Africa.

  • It united researchers, academics, non-governmental organisations, civil society, scientists, healthcare professionals and public officials working on all aspects of tobacco control from more than 100 countries.

World Ocean summit 2018 concluded in Mexico

  • World Ocean Summit was held recently in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

  • The summit is for business, government and environmental leaders to talk about the problems faced by the world’s seas and to come up with solutions to protect the planet’s vast ocean resources.

  • World Ocean Summit’s vision is of an ocean with robust health and vital economy.

First Conference of International Solar Alliance begins in New Delhi

  • Heads of 23 nations and 10 ministerial representatives will participate in New Delhi for first conference of International Solar Alliance.

  • The Summit will be co-hosted by president Ram Nath Kovind and his french counterpart president Emmanuel Macron.

  • The aim of the summit is to deliberate on a finance mechanism for the promotion of solar energy in member countries, crowd-funding and technology transfer.

Indian Army releases book on Paramveer Chakra Awardees

  • General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff released a book on Paramveer Chakra Awardees – ‘Paramveer Parwane’.

  • The book is written by Dr Prabhakiran Jain and is published by Medha Books.

  • The book illustrates the bravery of Paramveer Chakra Awardees from 1947 to 1965.

Sri Lanka Cricket releases book on Jagmohan Dalmiya

  • Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) released a book titled ‘A Tribute to Jagu’.

  • On the occasion of the 70th independence of the island nation, paid a glowing tribute to former BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya by releasing a book.

‘Book Fulfilling Bapu’s Dreams – Prime Minister Modi’s Tribute to Gandhiji’ launched

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, received the first copy of the book ‘Fulfilling Bapu’s Dreams – Prime Minister Modi’s Tribute to Gandhiji’ from Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who formally released it at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • The book underscores an important aspect of India’s developmental process – linking sanitation with broad mass participation, making it a mass movement, giving central importance to the practical needs of ordinary citizens in policy, and establishing ethical ideals firmly in public life.

Aamir Khan launches Manjeet Hirani’s book ‘How to be a Human’

  • Aamir Khan launched the book ‘How to be a Human’, which is penned by Rajkumar Hirani’s wife Manjeet Hiraniwas.

  • The book is based on the dog which the Hirani’s adopted from ‘PK’ sets.

  • In her book, Manjeet has written about attachment, parenting, and karma, among other things.

  • She shows how having a dog in the house can alter your perspective and change the way you experience life.

  • International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is observed on 25 March every year across the world.

  • The 2018 theme was “Remember Slavery: Triumphs and Struggles for Freedom and Equality”.

24 March: World Tuberculosis Day

  • The World Tuberculosis Day was observed across the globe on March 24, 2018.

  • Its aim is to raise public awareness about the upsetting health and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.

  • The theme of the World Tuberculosis Day 2018 is ‘Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world’.

22 March: World Water Day

  • The World Water Day is observed on 22 March every year, to raise awareness about the importance of water.

  • The theme this year is, ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges the world faces in the 21st century.

  • The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.

21 March: International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

  • The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March.

  • The theme of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in 2018 is “Promoting tolerance, inclusion, unity and respect for diversity in the context of combating racial discrimination”.

21 March: International Day of Forests

  • The International Day of Forests was established on the 21st day of March, by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012.

  • The theme of the International Day of Forests in 2018 is “Forests and Sustainable Cities”.

  • The event marks the importance of sustaining and protecting woodlands and trees, which are vital to economies, livelihoods and environment.

20 March: World Sparrow Day

  • Every year 20th March is observed as the World Sparrow day.

  • The theme for world sparrow day 2018 is “I LOVE Sparrows” which is pictured as this I ? Sparrows.

  • World Sparrow Day is an international initiative started by Nature Forever Society (NFS) in India to raise awareness about the house sparrow and other such birds.

20 March: International Day of Happiness

  • The United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness on 20th March.

  • This is celebrated as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world.

  • The theme for IDH 2018 is “Share Happiness” – focusing on the importance of relationships, kindness and helping each other.

18 March: Global Recycling Day

  • The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) proclaimed March 18, 2018 the first Global Recycling Day.

  • Based on the worldwide response, the organization was successful in calling attention to the issues facing the recycling industry and highlighting the importance of what it calls “the seventh resource.”

15 March: World Consumer Rights Day

  • World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated globally on 15th March.

  • It is an awareness day and theme for this year’s WCRD 2018 is ‘Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer’.

  • On this day in 1962, President John F Kennedy formally addressed the issue of consumer rights in US Congress and became first leader to do so.

  • Every year 14 March is observed as the International Pi Day across the world.

  • Pi Day is observed on 14 March (3/14 in the American month/day date format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of p.

  • On 14th March 2018, it is the 30th anniversary of the Pi Day.

8 March: World Kidney Day 2018

  • World Kidney Day, which is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness on the importance of kidneys, was celebrated on March 8 this year.

  • Ever since its inception in 2006, it has been observed on the second Thursday of March with a special theme for the year.

  • The theme of World Kidney Day 2018 is “Kidneys and Women’s Health”.

8 March: International Women’s Day

  • International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates the achievements of women everywhere.

3 March: World Wildlife Day

  • The World Wildlife Day is observed every year on 3rd March to celebrate and raise awareness about the world’s wild fauna and flora.

  • It is celebrated to mark the signing of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on this day in 1973.
