Varanasi to host Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019
The next Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be held in the holy city of Varanasi in January 2019.
The theme of the three-day event, which is being organised in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency, will be the 'Role of Indian Diaspora in building a New India'.
Those attending the event will get an opportunity to see Ganga aarti in Varanasi, Kumbh Mela in Allahabad and Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.
First-ever metal craft exhibition inaugurated in Leh at Jammu & Kashmir
With an aim to promote and preserve the metal craft tradition of Ladakh, the firstever metal craft exhibition was held in Chilling village.
The maiden exhibition, organised by the Youth Association for Conservation and Development Hemis High Altitude National Park, in collaboration with Heritage Home Chilling, showcased the indigenous craft to the visitors.
The exhibition, therefore, aims to dissolve the reluctance of the youth towards this age-old craft.
The exhibition of this 400-year-old craft will remain open for the next two months.
Mumbai's Elphinstone Road Station to Be Renamed As Prabhadevi
In another case of changing the British era names, the Western Railway renamed Elphinstone Road Station to Prabhadevi on Mumbai's suburban section.
The station, named after Lord Elphinstone, the Governor of Bombay from 1853 to 1860, is renamed after the local deity 'Prabhadevi'.
This renaming was first proposed by Shiv Sena leader Diwakar Raote in 1991.
The station with two platforms came up in 1867 and caters to slow line services on suburban section.
Prabhadevi is the name of the area in the vicinity of the station it derives its name from the 300 year old temple of the deity there.
The international festival of photography will be held in Chennai
The second edition of the Chennai Photo Biennale (CPB), the international festival of photography, will be held from February 22 to March 24, 2019.
Synchronised with the art calender of Asia, the 30-day long festival would be held at 30 venues with 150 plus artists, 300 hours of programming and have 45 print exhibitions.
The festival organised by the foundation in cooperation with the Goethe -Institut would be held at several locations across the city.
The Muziris Biennale in Kochi supported by the Kerala government put that city on the international map and transformed it.
The CPB is aiming to do the same for Chennai and make it home for photography in India
