UP airport 1st to have national highway under runway
The Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) International Airport in Babatpur - about 26km from Varanasi - will soon become the first airport in the country to have a national highway running under its runway.
The construction of an underpass will ensure the expansion of the airport’s runway for the landing of big planes, as well as convert the highway into a four-lane road.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has given its nod to the airport’s runway expansion by building the underpass, which will keep the alignment of the VaranasiLucknow highway (NH-56) intact.
The existing runway is 2,750m and is proposed to be extended up to 4,075m to ensure landing of big cargo and Boeing planes at the airport.
The runway expansion and underpass construction will commence simultaneously.
Delhi to get India’s first-ever national police museum in Chanakyapuri area, New Delhi
India will soon have its first national police museum as the central government has decided to establish the unique facility in Lutyens' Delhi.
The museum - depicting the history, artefacts, uniforms and gear of central and state police forces - will come up as an underground facility in the premises of the national police memorial in Chanakyapuri area of the national capital.
The museum is expected to be inaugurated on October 21 (Police Commemoration Day) at the hands of either Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Visva Bharati university to set up yoga village
Visva-Bharati University (VBU), founded by Rabindranath Tagore, will set up a yoga centre inside the campus, named yoga gram (village).
The centre is aimed at increasing awareness about yoga.
The campus at Santiniketan will have several single-storied buildings, termed as kuthis (cottages) dedicated to different techniques of yoga.
The cottages will be built inside a mango grove.
Each cottage will have a library and an audio-visual facility dedicated to different techniques of yoga, along with large halls for practising yoga,” Samiran Mondal.
Government to expand BPO promotion scheme, plans largest National Data Centre in Bhopal
The government plans to expand its BPO promotion scheme to one lakh seats and will also set up India's largest National data centre in Bhopal.
As many as 59.15 crore Indians have linked 87.79 crore bank accounts with the biometric identifier Aadhaar.
Nearly Rs 4 lakh crore has been disbursed as direct benefit transfer to poor people who has led to savings of Rs 90,000 crore by removing fictitious beneficiaries in the last four years.
The fifth National Data Centre will come up in Bhopal with capacity of five lakh virtual servers.
KVIC adopts Jagatpur village in Delhi for Swachhata Abhiyaan
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has adopted Jagatpur village in Delhi for its Swachhata Abhiyaan.
The sanitation drive by KVIC began with a plantation drive and ended with cleanliness drive along the bank of the Yamuna river.
Such enthusiastic participation of the public, Jagatpur is destined to be one of the most beautiful villages in Delhi and NCR.
KVIC is also installing 20 park benches on the bank on Yamuna river.
Under KVIC’s Swachhata Mission, the next cleanliness drive will bein Mumbai's Juhu Beach.
HRD nod to inter-university yoga centre in S-VYASA varsity
The Ministry of Human Resource Development approved setting up an interuniversity yoga centre at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bengaluru.
The announcement was made by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on the fourth International Yoga Day.
New AIIMS to be set up at Thoppur in Madurai
The Centre has picked Madurai over Thanjavur as the location for the new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), according to a communication from the Union Health Ministry to the State government.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approved the establishment of the new AIIMS at the site suggested by TN at Thoppur in Madurai district subject to a few conditions.
The State should provide four-lane connectivity from the National Highway to the site apart from ensuring 20MVA of power supply from two different feeders in addition to adequate water supply.

According to research firm SmallBusinessPrices.co.uk, Bengaluru has claimed the second spot in the list of best locations for launching tech startups.
The first place was secured by Boulder city in the US while the third best location was Johannesburg in South Africa.
The research measured the average internet speed, the average business valuation, and cost of living, among other metrics.

The Bhitarkanika national park has become the largest habitat of the endangered estuarine crocodiles in the country with a record number of their nesting sites spotted in it.
Altogether 101 nesting sites of estuarine crocodiles were found this time by enumerators, Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division.
Stating that the figure was 80 last year nesting spots had registered 25 per cent rise this year.
A female crocodile lays 50 to 60 eggs and the hatchlings usually emerge from the nests after 70 to 80 days of incubation period.
At least 1698 crocodiles, including albino species, were counted this year along the water-bodies of Mahanadi delta region, while the figure recorded last year stood at 1682.
