A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MHA will now ensure that names of other institutes in the district, including railway station, High Court and university, are also changed.
The 'Kumbh Mela' in Prayagraj will start on January 15 on 'Makar Sankranti' and will conclude on March 4 on 'Maha Shivaratri'.

It is believed that Pandu, a mythical king in Mahabharata, belonged to this area and Hindus used to worship during the month of Karteek.
The provincial Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in northwest Pakistan has declared the ancient Hindu religious site of PanjTirath in Peshawar as national heritage.
PanjTirath, which got its name from the five pools of water present there, also contains a temple and a lawn with date palm trees.
The five pools of the heritage site now come under the ambit of ChachaYunus Park and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

9-day long International Kite Festival kicks off in Ahmedabad
In Gujarat, the nine-day long international kite festival kicked off at Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad.
More than 150 kite fliers from 45 countries are participating in this edition of the festival.

Kallakurichi will be the headquarters of the new district and its creation has increased the number of districts in Tamil Nadu to 33.
Villupuram district, which was bifurcated from the erstwhile South Arcot district in 1993, has 11 Assembly segments, including Mailam, Tindivanam (Reserved) Vanur (Reserved), Gingee, Villupuram, Vikravandi, Thirukovilur, Ulundurpet, Rishivandhiyam, Sankarapuram and Kallakurichi (Reserved).

India could soon see seaplanes being used to fly passengers with the government giving approval to 13 water aerodromes under UDAN-3.
The very first seaplane could run within Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Country's longest single lane steel cable bridge opened in Arunachal Pradesh
India’s longest 300-metre single lane steel cable suspension bridge was inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
It is expected to benefit 20,000 people on either banks of Siang river, besides bolstering the defence preparedness.
The bridge across the Siang river at Yingkiong in Upper Siang district has been named Byorung Bridge.

American and Dutch scientists found that yearly ice mass loss in Antarctica increased sixfold in the past 40 years.
It is the longest-ever assessment of Antarctic ice mass, covering 176 basins and surrounding islands.
The researchers compared snowfall accumulation in interior basins with ice discharge by glaciers at their grounding lines.

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) named as World Capital of Architecture for 2020
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has named the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro as the World Capital of Architecture for 2020.
Rio will be the first city to receive the title under a programme launched together by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) in November 2018.
The city beat Paris and Melbourne to get the position.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Diffo Bridge over Chipu River in Arunachal Pradesh
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the 426 metres long Diffo Bridge over Chipu River in Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh.
Border Roads Organization (BRO) has constructed the bridge along Indo-China border.
The construction of the bridge began in 2011.
The total cost to build the bridge was Rs 4,847.83 lakh and was funded by the Union ministry of road transport and highways.
The Bridge connects Lower Dibang Valley with Lohit, Namsai and Anjaw districts and it will make travelling from east part to west part of Arunachal Pradesh very convenient and time saving.
Tamil Nadu released Startup & Innovation policy
Tamil Nadu government released ‘Startup & Innovation policy 2018-2023’ with a mission to provide an innovative ecosystem for startups registered in the State and to make Tamil Nadu a ‘Global Innovation hub for startups’ by 2023.
The government formed a 5-point plan to implement the policies which include creating ecosystems, ensure resources availability for Startup ecosystem, enable skill development and job creation, support social entrepreneurship and establish global accessibility and partnerships.
The State will set up Tamil Nadu Startup Fund of Funds for Rs. 250 crore which will be registered as an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) managed by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), for investment in startups and MSMEs.

China's Economy Grew At 6.6% In 2018, Slowest Rate In 3 Decades
China's economy grew at 6.6% in 2018, its slowest rate in almost 3 decades.
The world's 2nd biggest economy was grappling with the effects of the current trade war with the US and declining exports.
In the 3 months to December, the economy grew 6.4% from a year earlier, down from 6.5 %in the previous quarter.
China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) stated that last year's growth rate was down from 6.8% in 2017 and was the lowest since 1990 when the growth rate was 3.9%.
