    In figure X, the square sheet of paper has been folded along the horizontal line of the symmetry so that the upper half of the sheet overlaps with the lower half.

    In figure Y, the sheet is folded further into a quarter. Again in figure Z, a quadrilateral is cut at the centre.

    This quadrilateral will be created in each quarter of the paper. As the quadrilateral is punched close to the edge, a full design is seen when the paper is unfolded. Thus, when the paper is unfolded four quadrilateral shapes will appear doubled symmetrically.
